Welcome to Fun with Spanish!
In Lower School Spanish, the students are exposed to Spanish through TCI (Teaching with Comprehensible Input). Included in this methodology are; TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling), and TPR (Total Physical Response), OWI (One Word Images), Story Asking, Movie Talk, Circling, PQA (Personalized Questions and Answers) and so much more! Each one of us has acquired our first language which means we are capable of acquiring another language. Input, input, input will be the largest part of Spanish class. Your student will hear me speak a lot, but slowly. I will repeat what I say over and over while pointing and gesturing and then checking for comprehension. With thoughtful planning I'll engage students to acquire Spanish through music and movement, interactive play, drawing, conversation and reading. Spanish for PK-K is an introduction to the Spanish language, while 1st-3rd are a continuation. I meet with each class twice per seven day rotation, PK-K classes are 30 minutes, 1st-3rd grades for 45 minutes. Please visit this website with your student if they would like extra practice with new vocabulary, songs, games etc. I look forward to partnering with your student on their journey to acquiring Spanish. Explanation of Grades In Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten grades will be based of the student's ability to understand simple words in the target language when accompanied by gestures/pictures. 1st-3rd grades are evaluated using the following: E—Exhibits Strength D—Developing as Expected B—Beginning to Develop N—Needs Extra Support |
